Ranchi beat Delhi but fail to qualify for semis

Vew delhi: Former champions Ranchi Rays beat Delhi Daredevils 6-2 here today but failed to qualify for the semifinals of the Hockey India League.

Needing to win by at least an eight-goal margin, Ranchi seemed on their way. Two field goals from Manpreet Singh and one from Imran Khan gave Ranchi a 6-0 lead, and continuous attacks had the hosts under extreme pressure. But Justin Reid-Ross’ field goal against the run of play stopped Ranchi in their tracks.

The final pool game will be played between Dabang Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh Wizards, though both teams have already qualified for the semis. — TNS
