ICC chairman Shashank Manohar today deferred his decision to step down from the post until his successor is elected after the completion of the 2017 annual conference. The decision comes following an ICC Board resolution to request him to remain in office was passed with an overwhelming support earlier this week. In a significant show of support for Manohar, the Board asked him to withdraw his resignation or, at the very least, defer it until the ongoing process relating to governance and financial restructuring was completed. Commenting on the decision, Manohar said: “I respect the sentiments expressed by the directors and the confidence they have reposed in me. Although my decision has not changed, I am willing to continue as chairman till the responsibility as per the resolution is complete. I’ve a duty to work with my colleagues to enable a smooth transition and continue our work on governance.”

De Kock cleared to play Hamilton Test

South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has been cleared to play in the final Test of the three-match series against New Zealand in Hamilton despite suffering tendon damage in his right index finger. De Kock received the go-ahead after passing a fitness test to determine whether the tendon damage was severe enough to sideline him. When quizzed as to why South Africa had risked de Kock , skipper Faf du Plessis insisted that the game in Hamilton was a big one and, therefore, they could not take a risk by dropping him.
