Chandigarh, January 3

The School Education Department today announced that schools in the state would open an hour late in view of the inclement weather. The new timings, 10 am to 3:20 pm, are applicable till January 15.

In a communication to all District Education Officers (DEOs), Secretary (School Education) Krishan Kumar said it had come to the government’s notice that several districts had decided at their own level to change school timings due to fog. In districts where these had not yet been changed, it had been done in a manner that there was least possible loss of studies, he added.

No confusion over closing time: DEO

Faridkot: The School Education Department fixed the closing time for all schools at 3:20 pm, even though classes in 14,000-odd primary schools in the state are over at 3 pm. Inderjit Kaur, DEO (Elementary), Faridkot, said there was no segregation of timings for primary and high schools in the order, so it was presumed that all schools would close at 3:20 pm. TNS
