Ludhiana, January 15

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested four more persons for admitting ineligible candidates and fraudulently issuing D-Pharmacy degrees in alleged connivance with registrars and officials of the Punjab State Pharmacy Council (PSPC).

An official spokesperson of the VB said those arrested included Gurpreet Singh Gill, owner of Adesh Institute of Medical Science and Research, Bathinda; Sarabjit Singh Brar, principal of Adesh institute; RS Ramakodi, who was principal of Lala Lajpat Rai College in 2013, Sehna in Barnala district; and Baljinder Singh Bajwa, who was principal in 2011 at Lala Lajpat College of Pharmacy, Moga.

In this case, the VB had earlier arrested Parveen Kumar Bharadwaj and Dr Tejvir Singh, both former registrars of the PSPC, along with superintendent Ashok Kumar. In addition to this, 9 pharmacists have also been arrested in this case.

A VB spokesperson said to fill seats in D-Pharmacy institutions, the owners of private colleges allegedly admitted students from other states in connivance with these registrars and officials of the PSPC without obtaining mandatory migration certificates and accepting bribes from candidates. Moreover, several students obtained admission to the D-pharmacy course by possessing the requisite 10+2 educational qualifications in medical or non-medical streams from private institutes.
