Faridkot, February 13

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, for the first time conducted the postgraduate medical entrance test for 393 seats online today.

In this entrance test for admission to PG medical/dental (MD/MS, MDS) and Ultrasonography courses, 2,126 MBBS doctors appeared at five centres all over the state.

All candidates in this exam were provided computers at all five test centres and these computers were connected to a central server, which delivered the question paper and result in real time.

For 250 MD/MS seats in seven medical colleges and 111 MDS seats in 16 dental colleges in Punjab, 1,796 and 251 candidates appeared, respectively. For 32 Ultrasonography course seats, 71 candidates appeared.

However, for 41 NRI quota postgraduate medical seats (25 MD/MD and 16 MDS), only eight candidates appeared for the exam today. Out of these eight candidates, only three could clear the examination.

The examination centres were at Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar, Phagwara and Mohali, he said Dr Raj Bahadur, Vice chancellor, BFUHS. This step is aimed at ensuring transparency, efficiency, checking paper leaks and tampering with answer-sheets, he added.

After the success of the postgraduate medical entrance test, the varsity is going to conduct the next Pre-Medical Entrance Test online. As many as 15,000 students are expected to appear for about 2100 MBBS and BDS seats in the state on May 15.

There was a technical snag when two questions could not be read clearly but all candidates were given full marks for the two questions, the VC said.
