The Delhi Police on Wednesday sent a notice to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asking him to appear before it on Friday in connection with the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in February, an official said.

Crying foul, the Aam Aadmi Party accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “misusing” the Delhi Police to “bother” Kejriwal.

A senior police official said the notice asked the CM to join the investigations at 11 am on May 18. “In case such timing is not convenient, kindly intimate an alternative time,” the notice read. However, Kejriwal has not responded to the notice.

There is a possibility that the police may ask Kejriwal’s deputy Manish Sisodia to join the investigation later.

AAP state unit chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “It is for the first time in the country that a Chief Minister is being examined in a fake case. Modi is misusing the police to bother Kejriwal, but people stand by him.” He also alleged that the PM was pressuring the Chief Secretary to pursue a false case.

Last month, Kejriwal’s private secretary Bibhav Kumar and a party volunteer, Vivek Kumar, were also questioned. The police have already questioned 11 AAP MLAs present at the CM’s residence for the February 19 meeting in which Prakash was allegedly attacked.

Kejriwal, his former adviser VK Jain and Sisodia were also present there. On February 23, a police team had examined the CCTV system installed at the Chief Minister’s residence in the Civil Lines area and seized the hard disk, a forensic report of which is awaited.  — TNS
