Ludhiana, May 22

The local Vigilance staff nabbed three persons, including the reader of the local Tehsildar, while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a woman on Tuesday.

The complainant, Kuldeep Kaur Khalsa, a resident of Golden Colony on the Star road, said on May 4, she visited the Tehsildar (Central) office for the cancellation of a general power of attorney. She met Himmat Singh, who claimed to be an aide of the Tehsildar’s reader, Suresh. He demanded Rs 6,000 as bribe to get her work done. After bargaining, Himmat settled for Rs 5,000.

The woman alleged her power of attorney was cancelled on May 11 but she was not given a copy of the same. When she met the accused, he demanded bribe in lieu of getting her a copy of the general power of attorney from Suresh. Today, the complainant, along with the Vigilance staff, laid a trap and the three accused were nabbed red-handed.
