Science model pitches for Smart City project

A city-based animation school was transformed into science city under the Udaan art exhibition. Two science projects would be recommended for the Smart City project, announced Deputy Mayor Shaam Sundar Malhotra, here on Saturday.

Dilbagh Singh and Abhijeet depicted the pitiable condition of the city through a model, which was inspired by Focal Point area of Ludhiana.

The model showed piles of garbage and industrial smoke within the vicinity of residential areas. It showed stray pigs rummaging through the garbage dump, a dirty pond, smoke emitting from factories, cars and environmental degradation.

Dilbagh said: “This project presents the grim reality of our city and we drew inspiration from the Focal Point area of the city. Some of the industries are situated near residential areas, which are directly or indirectly causing health problems to the nearby residents. Garbage invites mosquitoes and with that comes epidemics such as malaria and dengue. Factories dump waste outside in the open. Children are worst affected in such areas as their immunity is weakened. There should be segregation of waste and dry and wet waste should be collected separately.”

The Deputy Mayor said: “I appreciate efforts of children in sensitising the issues affecting people of Ludhiana despite it being one of the Smart City. I will recommend the models for the Smart City project. We, at our level, are also planning to take steps for waste management. There will be covered garbage dumps in the coming three to six months. More and more plantation will be encouraged in and around the city.”

“Street light sensors”, another model that received acclaimed would be recommended for a Smart City project. The street lights will only function whenever a vehicle pass by and will automatically get off incase the sensors do not witness any movement within a certain area.
