Ludhiana: The division no. 5 police have booked a couple in Rs16 lakh travel fraud case. The accused have been identified as Pooja Sood and her husband Gaurav Sood, residents of Sarabha Nagar.



Ludhiana: The division no. 5 police have booked a couple in Rs16 lakh travel fraud case. The accused have been identified as Pooja Sood and her husband Gaurav Sood, residents of Sarabha Nagar. Complainant Sham Lal of Jawahar Nagar said his son was in New Zealand on temporary residency (TR) basis and the accused agents promised to arrange a permanent residency (PR) in two months, and in lieu, they took Rs16 lakh from him. Now, the accused failed to arrange any PR and refused to return the money. No arrest has been made in the case so far.

Rape attempt: Two booked

The Sadar police have booked two men for attempting to rape a married woman. The accused have been identified as Kuldeep Singh and Inderjit Singh, resident of Phullawan village. The complainant told the police that on April 16, her husband had gone to UP and she was alone at home. The accused entered her house and attempted to rape her. The police said no arrest has been made in the case so far.

Woman peddler held

The Salem Tabri police have arrested a woman and recovered 300-gram ganja from her. The accused has been identified as Lalita of Bajigar Basti, Salem Tabri. She was arrested during a routine checking at Jalebi Chowk. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against her.

Two booked for travel fraud

The Daba police have booked two persons on the charge of committing travel fraud. The accused have been identified as Raj Tandon of Janakpuri and Aarti Tandon of Dashmesh Nagar. Complainant Hanish Kumar of GTB Nagar told the police that the accused had promised to arrange work visa of abroad and in lieu, he took Rs90,000 cash and a cheque for Rs1lakh. Later, when the accused only managed to arrange a 30-day visa, he returned a cheque for Rs70,000 which also bounced. The police have launched a probe.

Protest outside police station

Members of some Sikh organisations held a protest outside the police division no. 7 on Sunday demanding action against Shiv Sena members for putting up hoardings against Sikh radical Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. The protest lasted for over an hour, as members of the Sikh units were demanding registration of an FIR against the Shiv Sena members, who put up posters and hoarding against Bhindranwale at Samrala Chowk. It was only when the police assured action, that the protest was put off. Sikh members said by putting up such posters, the Shiv Sena members were trying to create communal disharmony in the society and the police should take the matter seriously and action should be taken against them without any prejudice.

Two booked for illegal mining

The Jamalpur police have nabbed two persons for illegally mining sand. The accused have been identified as Sukhdev of Bhamian Kalan and Gupreet Singh of Chamkor Sahib. Acting on a tip-off, the accused were nabbed from Bhamian Road. They were on way to sell the illegally-mined sand. Their tractor-trailer has also been seized. TNS

198 cases of illicit liquor seized

Samrala: The Samrala police arrested a tempo driver, Rajinder Singh of Haibowal, and recovered 198 cases of illicit liquor from him. During a naka at Neelon Bridge. the police stopped a tempo for checking. The driver stopped the vehicle some yards away and tried to escape, but was overpowered. During checking, the police recovered 198 cases of 2,376 bottles of illicit liquor. SHO Samrala Bhupinder Singh said the accused failed to show any documents and a case under the Excise Act was registered against him. He would be presented in court for further action. OC
