Punjabi Sahit Akademi will celebrate International Mother-tongue Day at Punjabi Bhawan tomorrow.
President of the academy Sukhdev Singh Sirsa said it would be a day dedicated to mother-tongue of all Punjabis.
To celebrate the day and the language, especially with the youth, inter-college literary competitions would be held. These would include story-writing, poetry-writing, folk song competition, cultural quiz, poem poster competition and poetry recitation competition.
The members of the academy said the day should be celebrated by all Punjabis, to dedicate love for their mother-tongue, irrespective of locations, ranks and religions. They said Punjabis irrespective of religious or social strata, whether they are living in Punjab or outside of the state or the country, are one and they must unite to celebrate the day of their mother-tongue Punjabi.
Dr Gurcharan Kaur, the coordinator for the festival, long with assistant coordinators Sehajpreet Singh Mangat and Dr Davinder Kaur Dilroop said the competing teams from college scoring the best points in the competitions would be bestowed with ‘mother-tongue’ trophy.
Participation in all activities and events would not be considered mandatory for winning the trophy.
