The Samrala police claimed to have recovered 2.6 kg of opium and 90 kg of poppy husk from a car at a naka near Bondli village and arrested one of the car occupants. His son, however, escaped.

The arrested man has been identified as Ajmer Singh, a resident of Ghungrali village, and his son as Gurcharan Singh. The police also unearthed a bunker at Ajmer's house that was used to store drugs.

Khanna SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said a police party signalled a car coming from the Khanna side to stop at the naka. However, the driver stopped the car some distance away. He and another occupant of the car alighted from the vehicle and ran towards the fields. Ajmer was nabbed by the police. The police registered a case under the NDPS Act and arrested Ajmer. They are conducting raids to nab Gurcharan.

The SSP said Ajmer confessed that they brought the contraband from MP and were to sell it in here.
