Ludhiana: The Geography Department of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, organised Inter-College Zonal Geographical Quiz in collaboration with Association of Punjab Geographers in the college auditorium on Saturday. Around six teams from various colleges of the zone participated in the contest. Retired professor HS Mangat from Punjabi University, Patiala, and founder of Punjab Association of Geographers along with Dr Lakhvir Singh Gill, principal, University College, Ghanaur, Patiala, were the chief guests. Five teams qualified for the final round after the written test. Team Southern Ocean of KCW won the contest while Arctic Ocean from SCD College and Pacific Ocean from Government College for Girls secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Arya college girls section

An extension lecture on ‘Female Foeticide’ was organised at Arya College Girls Section under the aegis of Red Ribbon Club. Dr Iqbal Singh Ahuja, Dr Mini Ahuja and Onkar Singh Narula, the guest speakers, addressed the students to raise awareness about the grave issue of gender-based abortions. Students showed their artistic streak by participating in poster-making competition on female foeticide. A rally with placards and banners, advocating the importance of gender equality, was also organised. Incharge Dr Mamta Kohli said the college would continue to organise such events to encourage students to become advocates for change in their communities. The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr Rajni Bala, nodal officer, Red Ribbon Club.

Guru nanak khalsa college

The placement cell of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, in collaboration with Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Facilitation Office, organised ‘ Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme’ on self-employment opportunities. Krishan Kumar, assistant director, MSME-DFO, and Anupama Rani, assistant director, MSME-DFO, apprised the students of the schemes by Ministry of MSME, Government of India. Kumar spoke about various loan schemes and subsidies provided by the government to promote start-ups. Brahmleen Kaur, senior manager, Bank of India, elaborated on the various loan schemes and subsidies provided by banks to promote entrepreneurship among the youth.
