Ludhiana, January 17

The police claimed to have recovered 300 gm of heroin from a 22-year-old man, near canal bridge in Jaspal Bangar village. According to sources, the cost of the recovered contraband was around Rs 1.5 crore in the market.

The accused, who has been identified as Ranjit Singh, a resident of Kari Kalan village in Ferozepur district, has been arrested.

Sub-Inspector (SI), Special Task Force, Dev Raj said the accused was walking from the Tibba Road side at around 4:15 pm on Tuesday when the police stopped him for checking.

“The accused was carrying 300 gm of heroin with him. A case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Sadar police station against him,” he added.

Earlier, Ranjit was pursuing a course in welding from the ITI in Jalalabad and presently, he was unemployed, he added. A case of drug smuggling was already registered against the accused at the Lakho ke Behram police station in Ferozepur, said the SI.

“He has been smuggling drugs for the past two years,” he claimed.

During investigation, Ranjit disclosed that he bought heroin from an unidentified man of Doulewal village in Moga district at lower rates and wanted to sell it to customers in Ludhiana district, said the SI.

“The court has sent the accused to one day police remand. Our investigation is underway,” he added.

2.5 kg of ganja seized

The police has claimed to have arrested a man near Eastman Chowk Dhandari and recovered 2 kg of ganja from his possession. The accused has been identified as Sanjay Upadhyay, a resident of Maha Lakshmi Nagar. A case under Sections 20, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Focal Point police station against the accused.

In another case, the police arrested a man for allegedly carrying 500 gm of ganja in a polythene bag. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at the Daba police station against the accused, who was identified as Subham, a resident of Sherpur, Ludhiana.
