Ludhiana, April 21

A four-year-old migrant boy was crushed under the wheels of an SUV near the Durga temple on Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Sourav, son of Anirudh, a native of Uttar Pradesh and at present residing at Sunet village.

Police sources said the boy had gone to the temple to pay obeisance with his relatives. He was standing outside the temple when the SUV ran him over.

Eyewitness said a man sitting in the SUV was distributing biscuits to children outside the temple. The guard of the temple asked the SUV driver to park the vehicle on the roadside to make way for traffic. “The moment the driver reversed the vehicle, a boy standing right behind it got crushed under the rear wheel. He died on the spot,” sources said.

Sarabha Nagar SHO Sumit Sood said a case of negligent driving had been registered against, Gaurav Jain, son of Jeevan Jain. Gaurav owns an iron-manufacturing industry.
