Can’t get these monkeys off your back!

There''s a lot to say about May; May means possibilities, lots of possibilities.

Amarjot Kaur

There's a lot to say about May; May means possibilities, lots of possibilities. May you find success; may you find an amazing someone (doesn't have to be romantic, but that may be a bonus); and may you find that forgotten cash in your pocket when you need it most. How we hate losing cash! In May, you may or may not get all of the above, but may we at least provide you with a handpicked playlist? June-bet-ya! It’s been a couple of weeks since Arctic Monkeys released their sixth studio album and Chandigarh folks are finding it difficult to get these monkeys off your backs.

Titled Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, the album is produced by James Ford and band front-man Alex Turner.

MIC CHECK

Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of Sheffield. The band comprises Alex Turner (lead vocals, rhythm/lead guitar), Matt Helders (drums, vocals), Jamie Cook (lead/rhythm guitar) and Nick O'Malley (bass, backing vocals).

The band has won seven Brit Awards – winning both, Best British Group and Best British Album, three times— and have been nominated for three Grammy Awards. They also won the Mercury Prize in 2006 for their debut album, in addition to receiving nominations in 2007 and 2013.

HIT LIST

Here, listen to every song of the album: Star Treatment, One Point Perspective, American Sports, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, Golden Trunks and The Ultracheese.

OUR TAKE

Even though 'Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino' sounds nothing like any of Arctic Monkey’s previous albums, and just like the guitar, drums have been underplayed too, it tugs at the heart for belting out brave and evolved compositions.

Voice of the people

Experimental take

The Arctic Monkeys have deviated from their standard ‘guitar heavy’ music and this time they have experimented with the new-age space pop music. I could not relate much with the album, although it is very artistic and has a very experimental sound, especially because it sounds nothing like Arctic Monkeys.

Feeling the music

This album by Arctic Monkeys gives me the ‘James Bond’ feel. It’s not quite my genre, but this one is quite creative. I am not disappointed at all. I feel every musician must evolve and if that means deviating from the standard, so be it!

Drop the beat

I couldn’t get the Arctic Monkeys vibe, even though some songs were really nice and creative. Overall, it’s a good album, but they have really underplayed the drums.
