What employers want?

Abhishek Agarwal

Most of the college graduates have no idea about what employers are looking for while hiring. While people have similar academic background still employers do look for specific qualities when recruiting a new employee. This is the reason why sometimes average graded people get hired on higher packages compared to better graded people. The reason is the added whip hand of having some required skills which are highly valued by recruiters. These skills are not related to your degrees and are nowhere related to your performance in exams.

Good Communication Skills Any role in a company involves communicating with various people so you need to have strong communication skills. It could be interpersonal communication, group communication or mass communication. Maybe your interaction is limited you are interacting with two people in a day or twenty people every day but you are going to represent a company so you need to have good communication skills.

Flexible and Focused Company looks for employees who can quickly adopt changes, because deadlines and projects can change at a short period of time. Employees must quickly adapt as well as remain focused on meeting deadlines.

For example, you may have just received a project along with deadlines for a week. But, come Thursday and the manager decides everything needs to be shifted to accomplish the task a day earlier. The adaptable employee would be able to quickly adapt to these changes and focus on projects with top priority.

Team Player These days, almost every company requires you to work in a team. And when you start working in a team it requires many qualities like listening actively, to function as an active member, work as a problem solver, treat others in a respectful and supportive manner, having patience and the ability to maintain a balance between individual and team tasks.

Creative Every employer wants that their employee should be one who is willing to experiment with new things and able to think out of the box because businesses need people with great ideas to really grow and prosper. And it will add a hand to enhance employee's and company productivity.

Leadership qualities "Leadership is action, not position". Good communication skills required for a good leader. Inspiring others is the sign of an effective leader. Motivation is best done by example and guidance, not by issuing commands. A leader must have team building power. Good leadership is not about advancing yourself it's about advancing your team. Being a leader you should know how to assess risk and run scenarios that will help you make better decisions. Good leaders take right decision at right time.

Hard Working Hard work cannot be replaced by anything. There are different types of people. For Example- there are some people who work hard for a few years after that they lose pace and other hands there are some people who always work hard. An employee, who is particular about working only from 10 to 6 even when urgent projects need to be completed, cannot be considered as hardworking as one who is willing to put in extra time and effort.

Good employees keep reminding themselves of how essential it is to themselves and the company they work for to keep the hard work going.

Positive attitude No One wants to be around who has negative vibes or who is unhappy. Every person with positive attitudes is well-liked by their colleagues. It's easy to get along with and people enjoy being around them. A purpose of every profession to break some problems and problems need a solution. Wages offered in any industry are generally proportional to the degree of difficulty and complexity of problems employees must solve on a daily basis. The more problems you solve-large or small-the more valuable you will be to your employer.

Punctual and self-disciplined punctuality is the first step towards success. So if you are going to work somewhere you should be punctual. An Ideal employee is one who stays on track despite issues that everyone faces from time to time. He manages his life and strives to keep problems at home. He also does not become obstructed by modern technology, such as the Internet or a cell phone. He concentrates on his work.

An active employee never wastes his employer’s time and money. Instead, while at work, he works!
