A 14-year-old boy has been held for the murder of his father, a local Imam, in the Dooru area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said here today.
The boy, as per police report, has confessed to have murdered his father.
Abdul Hameed Malik, 45, a resident of Bragaam village in Dooru was found murdered on his fields near his house on Tuesday.
The accused had maintained that he visited the field to deliver lunch to his father and found him murdered, half buried.
Malik had been hit with a sharp-edged weapon on his head and it was his 14-year-old son who had raised an alarm on finding his father dead. A case was registered and police initiated an investigation into the matter amid widespread protests in the area, demanding immediate arrest of the culprit.
“The police after carrying out thorough investigation zeroed in on Malik’s minor son,” a senior police officer from the area said: “After persistent questioning the boy confessed to have murdered his father,”
The police said the accused admitted that he held a grudge against his father since childhood and that prompted him to take the extreme step.
Anantnag SSP Abdul Jabbar told reporters that the weapon of offence had been recovered and a case of murder was registered.
