Ahead of the crucial panchayat and urban local bodies elections, Governor Satya Pal Malik has called for a daylong conference with the civil and police administration at the SKICC here on Wednesday.
Apart from the development projects, the meet will discuss the security situation in the state, which has been adversely affected over the years, particularly in south Kashmir, due to rise in militancy.
“The Governor will discuss with the civil and police officials the law and order issue and the elections to the urban local bodies and panchayats,” a senior official said.
During the conference, an interaction will be held with the Advisers, administrative secretaries, deputy commissioners and senior superintendents of police.
Amid the uncertain security scenario and election boycott by the two major political parties — the PDP and the NC — the State Election Commission has decided to hold the polls to the urban local bodies from October 8 and to the panchayats from November 17.
Malik is also going to emphasise on the financial empowerment of the district administrators for the effective delivery of the benefits of various welfare schemes.
An officer said the conference would also lay emphasis on the public redressal grievance system.
To expedite the implementation of mega flagship projects in health, education, power and roads, he said the Governor wants to discuss the roadmap with the officials.
After the Governor last month sought the report of languishing development projects from all district administrators, the meet will discuss both state and Centre-sponsored projects pending due to the non-availability of funds.
