Jalandhar, February 22

Activists of the SSA/RMSA Office Employees Union said union members in the district would burn an effigy of the government outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner tomorrow. Members of the union said they would protest against the government’s failure in regularising their services despite the passage of a bill in this regard. They also allege that they have not received their salaries for the last few months.

Union district president Gagan Sharma and state vice president Ashish Julaha today said, “While a bill to ensure regularisation of our services was passed in the Vidhan Sabha, the government has failed to get it implemented.” He said the Akali-BJP government had given big statements in newspapers that they won’t deny rights to employees, but the declaration seemed a vote gimmick, because it only remained on paper.

Members claimed that while they had sought a meeting with the Chief Secretary, the official couldn’t even spare 10 minutes for them. He said if the chief secretary didn’t hold a meeting with employees soon and bring a solution to the issue, then all employees would be forced to strike work and turn their hunger strike into a fast unto death. They also claimed that they were not provided salaries for the past five months.
