Last year, child rights commission had put school inspections by district-level committees on hold after they failed to achieve the desired results under the Safe School Vahan Policy.

The District Child Protection Officer, officials from the District Education Department and Transport Department and police officers were a part of the committees.

The schools were given a pro forma which sought details of the registration number, type and model of vehicle, installation of flashing light or buzzer working at the time of boarding and de-boarding of bus, seating capacity, speed governor, CCTV cameras, type of door of bus, availability of lock on doors, emergency exit, first-aid box and women attendants.

Till date, most of the schools in various districts have not complied with the the Safe School Vahan Policy.
