The science faculty of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a national seminar on recent trends in science and technology under DBT Star College Scheme.



The science faculty of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a national seminar on recent trends in science and technology under DBT Star College Scheme. The chief guest on the occasion was Dr Gurcharan Kaur, Professor and Head of the department of biotechnology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. KMV principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi extended floral greetings to the chief guest. Dr Updesh Kaur, coordinator, DBT, welcomed the speakers. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr Gurcharan Kaur. She talked about recent advances in medical biotechnology and their importance. Dr Sachin Suresh Suraeshe, senior scientist, Division of Entomology, Biological Control Lab ICAR-IARI (PUSA), New Delhi, gave an overview on bio-pesticides. The next presentation was given by Dr Manoj Sharma, Professor and Head of the department of chemistry GNDU, Amritsar, on the journey of organic chemistry. Dr Arvind C Ranade, Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, interacted with students on the topic “Recent advances and development in astronomy and astrophysics”. Dr Saroj Arora, Professsor, department of botanical and environmental sciences, GNDU, talked on the importance of herbal products.

Modelling show

A model hunt show was organised at La Blossoms School, South City, Jalandhar. Students of pre-nursery to LKG performed very well. Special guest Purvashi Grover (singer) and Nikhil Sharma watched the performance of students. It was a movement to students given by the school to make them confident and to encourage them. The function was divided in three categories - western, traditional and Indo-western. Parents were glad to see the performance of their kids. Principal Vandana Murria, Director Ruhani Kohli were present. Kannu Priya and Dharminder Kathak anchored the function along with Sukhmani and Riya of Class XII. The choreography was done by the Ashawani Kathak and Neetu Mehra.

Campus placement drive

The CT Group of Institutions organised an on-campus placement drive of Genpact at its CT Shahpur Campus for final year students of B.Tech (CSE/ECE), B.Pharma, B.Sc (MLS), B.Sc (Bio-Tech), BCA, BBA, B.Com, B.Sc (IT), BA. Nearly 130 students participated. Out of these, 20 students were shortlisted and finally 13 students got offer letters by the company for banking and financial services, life sciences and voice (customer services, semi-technical, collections) on the annual package of Rs 1.8 lakh per annum. HR officials from Genpact, Charanjit Singh and Ishita Dua, conducted the placement drive. Charanjit Singh Channi, chairman and Manbir Singh, managing director of the CT Group of Institutions congratulated the students. —TNS

Martyrdom Day observed

Students and teachers of Mohan Lal Uppal DAV College, Phagwara, paid tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru and Shaheed Sukhdev on the Martyrdom Day. Mangat Ram Pasla, political and social worker and member of Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee was the resource person. He discussed various ideologies of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He also motivated students to respect all religions and remove casteism. On this occasion, Principal Dr Suman Tandon laid stress on the necessity of true love, sincerity and selfless patriotism for one’s motherland. She thanked Prof Kuldeep, NSS In-charge and students for organising the seminar. —OC
