The graduation ceremony was organised in Delhi Public School for the ‘graduates’ of Class prep. Thakur Arun Singh (pro-vice chairman), Vasudha Thakur, Col AK Maini (CAO), Ritu Kaul (in-charge Principal) were present on the occasion. Students recited Gayatri mantra and Mool mantra, dohas, melodious graduation songs and, a “Saraswati Vandna” and western dance on the song “Heal the world.” Thakur Arun Singh expressed his views on the value of reading. He appreciated parents as well as the staff for their co-operation. Ritu Kaul (in-charge Principal) congratulated parents and children.

Inter-class competition

An inter-class competition was organised by the science department of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar. Students of BSc (non-medical) and BSc (computer science) participated in various events such as science quiz, science toons, scientific rangoli and extempore. Principal Dr Kiran Arora was the chief guest on the occasion.

High scores

Students of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, secured top positions in the results of various classes declared by Guru Nanak Dev University recently. Anuradha, a student of MA Hindi (Sem III) secured the fourth position in the university and first position in Kapurthala district by securing 308 out of 400 marks. Similarly, Inderpreet Kaur of M Com (Sem I) remained first in Kaputhala district and in college by securing 451out of 500 marks.

MoU signed

To promote the applied research, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Canadian college on Thursday on its main campus. The Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology is a public college in Toronto, Canada. Dean, planning and development, IKGPTU, Dr NP Singh and Jos Nolle from Seneca College signed the MoU. Dr NP Singh briefed about the scope of the MoU. He said the area of collaboration included the articulation programmes in BCom and BTech courses, exchange of visiting scholars and students, collaborative applied research projects on relevant subject and participation in workshop and seminars. Dr Anirudh Pratap Singh, Dean, RIC; Dr Balkar Singh, Director colleges; Dr SK Mishra, Finance Officer; Dr Ekonkar Singh Johal Deputy Registrar, academics, and faculty members were also present. The event was conducted by Dr Ekonkar Singh Johal.

Isha tops exam

Isha of Lyallpur Khalsa College bagged the first position in the university exams of GNDU of BSc. (non-medical- I) semester by getting 321 marks out of 400. College principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra, president of college governing council Balbir Kaur congratulated students and wished them success. Dr Balwinder Singh, Head of the department of physics and Prof Narveer Singh were also present.

Students win laurels

Priya, a student of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, bagged the third position in the university exam of BSc, biotechnology (Semester V) by securing 362 out of 420 marks. Anantika Suri of the same Class bagged the fifth positions by securing 353 marks. This information was given in a press release by principal Gurpinder Singh Samra. Sardarni Balbir Kaur, the president of the college governing council, congratulated the students and wished them success in life. Dr Arun Dev Sharma, the Head of the department of biotechnology was also present on the occasion.

Workshop on stress management 

A one-day workshop on stress management was organised at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. Archana was the resource person of the workshop, faculty member of the Art of Living. The workshop was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. Along with the resource person, Sindhu, from the Art of Living was also present, who is the alumnus of the college. Principal Ajay Sareen welcomed the guests. Archana addressed the workshop and said it was a must to conquer the mind from distressing. She said we listened, what we want to listen and not what was being said. In life, self confidence was a must. We faced stress when we were not in acceptance with any person, situation or thing. Stress was of two types – physical and mental. She also told about ‘Desktop Yoga’ for distressing, which could be done even sitting on a chair. She said  tendency of mind was such that it would not let you change anything. If we conquer our mind, we could won the world. She said smile was the best technique to remove stress. Principal Ajay Sareen thanked her and said inner change could be felt after one-day workshop. The stage was conducted by the Head of the department of psychology, Dr Ashmeen Kaur.

Study trip

The Buddhist Study Centre of the Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, took its students on a trip to enlighten them about the teachings of Buddha. It was a joint venture of the department of history, applied arts and fine arts. The students, along with their teachers, visited the Art Museum of Chandigarh, the Art Gallery of Sector 10 and the museum of the Punjab Kala Bhawan, where they explored the doctrines related to Buddha through paintings, art facts and sculptures of the Indo-Greek School of Art. This enterprise demonstrated the value of Buddha’s propaganda and its relevance in the contemporary world. Principal Sucharita said the life of modern man had become too hectic due to his interest in materialistic lifestyle and Buddha’s concepts could relieve one’s soul from the clutches of stress. She further said such enlightening trips proved to be fruitful in the life of youngsters and paved the way 

for their spiritual edification. — TNS
