The police today registered a case against Congress councillor Surinder Kaur of ward number 58 for allegedly mishandling media representatives who had come to her ward to shoot a report on development works undertaken by her.
According to eye-witnesses, the media team was making a film in the area by speaking to area residents when suddenly supporters of the councillor came and snatched the cameras and mikes from reporter. Following this, supporters of both fraternities began to gather on the spot and attacked each other.
The police, on getting information, rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. While the media team of local cable channel alleged that their equipment as snatched by the councillor’s supporters, Surinder Kaur, refuting the charges, claimed that only war of words took place between two of them.
Initially, the police was adamant not to register a case against the councillor and tried to bring the two groups to a compromise. However, media persons began to lodge a strong protest at the Bhargo camp police station and shouted slogans against the police. It was only after much hue and cry that a case was registered against the councillors. The police have also sought the video clippings shot on the spot to verify the sequence of events.
