The Vigilance Department here today caught a clerk in the Education Department while he was taking a bribe of Rs 15,000.
The accused was identified as Vijay Kumar, a junior assistant in the Education Department in Jalandhar.
As per the Vigilance Department, Jagtinder Singh, a lecturer in chemistry, had been suspended as he was facing a case.
During his suspension, he was made Headquarter Circle Education Officer, Jalandhar.
Thereafter, his reinstatement orders were also issued by the Director, Education Department (Secondary). Jagtinder was supposed to join Senior Secondary School in Daroli.
“Jagtinder approached Vijay Kumar, seeking his release, at which Jagtinder was asked to pay Rs 20,000 bribe.
He, somehow, managed to strike a deal at Rs 15,000. Jagtinder informed the matter to the Vigilance Department, resulting inthe accused getting nabbed bythe department,”said officials.
