Civil, police admn launch joint action plan

JALANDHAR: The District Administration and the Police Department have initiated a joint action plan against drugs in Jalandhar district on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for the complete eradication of the drug menace from the state.

The District Administration and the Police Department have initiated a joint action plan against drugs in Jalandhar district on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for the complete eradication of the drug menace from the state.

Addressing a meeting of the police and civil authorities here today, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said stern legal action would be taken for illegal activities pertaining to drugs in the district. Besides regular checking to curb the drug supplies networks completely, the district administration and the police authorities would establish a strong rapport with the public to get information regarding the people indulging in such kinds of anti-social activities, said Sharma, adding that a roadmap had been chalked out to attain the desired aims.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that every week, the progress would be reviewed in the district.

He further motivated the civil authorities to play an active role in making society drugs-free. “It is our prime duty to make the society drugs-free andfor that purpose, we would establish administration-public rapport. Nolapse on part of any official would be tolerated in eradicating drugs,” added the DC.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the District Health Authorities for regular checkingof chemist shops and the police would providethe necessary help tothe Health Department for the same.

He also directed the health authorities for regular inspection of drug de-addiction centres for their smooth run, besides making people aware of the facilities on such centres.

He directed the authorities of the Excise and Taxation Department for strongly enforcing the laws to fix the quantity of liquor sale.

The Deputy Commissioner said that special competitions, including debates, essay writing and awareness rallies, would be organised in schools and educational institutes for disseminating awareness on health hazards and social evils due to drugs.

Commissioner of Police Arpit Shukla, while addressing the meeting, said the department had already established helpline number 9592918005 for urban areas and 7837340018 for rural areas on which anybody could give information on persons indulging in drug activities.

Besides police personnel in civil dress would also work in the field to create a strong network.

The department would also motivate people to play a proactive role to make society drugs-free.
