Jalandhar, February 9
Even though the Education Department has issued directions regarding a strict no-cheating stance on examination centres in the district, the district education department is yet to receive directions regarding the exam centres to be chosen in the district.
While declarations have also been made regarding sensitive centres where CCTV cameras are going to be installed, the department has not received any instructions regarding this so far as well. Notably, with 13,700 students to appear for the Xth board exams this year in the district and 9,900 students to appear for the XII board exams, Jalandhar has traditionally been one of the districts where many cases of cheating have been reported from “open” centres running in the city.
The Xth standard as well as the XII standard exams will start from March 10 and February 28, respectively.
Education Department Secretary-cum-Chairman, Punjab School Education Board, Krishan Kumar, had also released instructions a couple of days ago that no laxity shall be tolerated in the exams of the X and XII standards. He had stated in whichever affiliated schools the matter of cheating surfaces, their recognition shall be cancelled by the board. He also said that FIRs would be lodged against the school head as well as the examination centre’s superintendent by the Education Department.
