Annual sports meet

The MGN College of Education, Jalandhar, organised its 57th Annual Sports Meet.



The MGN College of Education, Jalandhar, organised its 57th Annual Sports Meet. The chief guest of the event, Jarnail Singh Pasricha, said sports were an essential element in lives of students. Principal Neelu Jhanji welcomed the guests and stressed the need for physical activities and sports for holistic development. Ramandeep Singh and Tanu Rana were declared best athletes of the college. More than 175 students participated in various events like 100 m race, 200 m race, long jump, shot put, relay race, obstacle race, sack race, pillow fight, apple race and tug of war. Sports events were followed by cultural events like folk song, song, choreography and Gidha. Chief Guest Jarnail Singh Pasricha, trustee Gurpreet Singh and Principal Neelu Jhanji gave away the prizes. On the closing ceremony, Dr Parminder Kaur, principal, Lyallpur Khalsa College of Education; Satwant Gakhal, director, MGN Schools; Barinder Badwal, principal, MGN Public School; Jasdeep Mohan, principal, Lyallpur Khalsa Sr Sec School; Ramneek Kalra, manager, MGN Public School and HS Walia, among others were present.

Cancer awareness 

The CV Raman Science Society of the Ramgarhia College of Education organised a cancer awareness programme in which B.Ed students took part. They participated in poster making and slogan writing competitions wherein Preety, Parveen, Amandeep and Sapna grabbed the first, second, third and the consolation prizes, respectively. Mayank Sharma, student president, CV Raman Science Society, gave a presentation on early detection techniques for various forms of cancer. Principal Dr Surinderjit Kaur, in her address, emphasised the importance of early detection of cancer. Ramgarhia Educational Council chairperson and president Manpreet Kaur Bhogal congratulated college Principal Dr Surinderjit Kaur, teacher in-charges Dr Neeru Sharma and Dr Mona Vij, staff and students of the college for organising the programme.

Student attends int'l conference on engineering

A student of M Tech (mechanical engineering) part II of Lovely Professional University, Rohit Duggal, was recently invited by the Hong Kong Society of Mechanical Engineers (HKSME) to present his research paper at the International Conference on Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering (ICMAE 2016). In this conference, professors, researchers, engineers, scholars, students from various organisations all across the world had gathered to share their research on mechanical engineering. Rohit shared the research platform with academicians from top technology universities of the world. The conference was supported by York University (Canada) and Beijing Jiaotong University (China). Rohit, who is pursuing M Tech with specialisation in thermal engineering, Rohit presented unique research on ‘compact linear fresnel reflector (CLFR)’ for solar thermal power plant applications.

Highest score

According to the results declared by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, of diploma in computer application, Neelam, a student of BD Arya Girls College, Jalandhar Cantt, scored 180 out of 200 marks and bagged the first position in the university. College Principal Dr Sarita Verma congratulated the student, her parents and teachers.

Placement drive

Students of the Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara, have been selected by Concentrix Corporation during a campus placement drive. Fourteen students of the college have been selected by Concentrix during placement drive held at Lovely Professional University. These students include Manjit Kaur, Priya, Ashriya, Priya, Anchal, Milani, Kavita, Jaspreet Kaur, Inderjeet Kaur, Amarpreet, Harmanpreet Kaur, Neha Dhiman, Parampreet and Rupali. On joining the company they would get an annual package ranging from Rs 1.8 to 2.4 lakh. College Principal Dr Kiran Walia congratulated the students. She also congratulated members of the career orientation council of the college: Harvinder Chauhan, Anjanjot Kaur, Ramneet Kaur, Archna Walia, Dr Vanita Chahal and Satbir Singh.

Awareness rally

Students of the Punjabi department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya participated in an awareness rally organised by Punjabi Jagriti Manch. The rally is organised every year on International Mother Language Day. Students participated enthusiastically under the guidance of Head of the department Kawaljit Kaur. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen encouraged students to work for the mother language. Kuljeet Kaur, Navroop, Veena Arora and Prabhjot Kaur also gave their best wishes to students. Sukhwinder Kaur and Harmanpreet Kaur also participated in the rally. The teachers encouraged students to read literature in mother language.

Food stall

A food stall was set up by the department of food science and microbiology at KMV. The stall was inaugurated by Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Students of the department volunteered to bring various homemade food-products and sell them at the food stall. It made teaching and learning innovative. Students applied concepts learnt by them like fermentation, preservation and fortification to prepare an exhaustive list of products like bamboo pickle, arbi pickle, woodapple preserve, bottle ground chutney, dry dates pickle,  alsi turmeric ladoo, amla preserve, ginger garlic hill lemon pickle and much more. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi said the main aim behind the food stall was to equip students with competencies of entrepreneurship. —TNS
