4 booked for dowry, torture

PHAGWARA: On a complaint lodged by Narangshahpur village resident Rajwinder Kaur, the Sadar police has registered a case under Sections498A/506/120B/323/325 of the IndianPenal Code against her husband Davinder Singh, his father Malkiat Singh, mother Surinder Kaur and younger brotherGurjit Singh on the charges of torturingher physically and mentally to fulfill their demands of dowry.

On a complaint lodged by Narangshahpur village resident Rajwinder Kaur, the Sadar police has registered a case under Sections498A/506/120B/323/325 of the IndianPenal Code against her husband Davinder Singh, his father Malkiat Singh, mother Surinder Kaur and younger brotherGurjit Singh on the charges of torturingher physically and mentally to fulfill their demands of dowry.

Rajwinder Kaur told the police that she was married to Davinder Singh of Manikrai village near Bhogpur Jalandhar on March 16 last year.

She alleged that her husband and other family members repeatedly harassed her for dowry and after three months of her marriage, her husband went to Italy on June 26.

She alleged that he went on abusing her even on phone, while her-in-laws were torturing her for dowry.

She alleged that her brother-in-law Gurjit Singh was in the police and was beating her off and on. The police is investigating the matter.

Cash, earrings snatched

Three unidentified motorcycle-borne robbers snatched Rs 10,000,gold earrings, two mobiles and gold rings from two young girls by pointing weapons at them on the Atti-Falpotta road on Monday night.

The accused managed to flee from the spot after committing the crime. The Goraya Police has registered a case.
