10-yr RI, fine for abducting, raping minor

HOSHIARPUR: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood here on Monday sentenced a convict to 10 years’ jail and a fine of Rs 10,000 for abducting and raping a minor.

The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Priya Sood here on Monday sentenced a convict to 10 years’ jail and a fine of Rs 10,000 for abducting and raping a minor. If the convict fails to pay the penalty, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment for two months.

The police had filed an FIR against the accused on November 30, 2015, on the statement of the victim’s mother. She had told the police that her daughter studied in Class X in Government Girls High School. On November 20, 2015, her daughter went to the school, but did not return home from the school.

The victim’s mother said that her relative (husband of her husband’s sister) Baldev Raj, alias Sonu, a resident of Sulaihariyan Kalan, Mukerian, who had been living in a rented house in a colony in Mukerian for the past five years, too was missing from the same day. She alleged that she was convinced that Baldev had lured her daughter and had abducted her. After this, the police searched for Baldev and arrested him and interrogated him. The victim told the police that the accused had raped her.

The police filed a case against the accused.
