A team of the Forest Department nabbed three suspects, including two Nepal-origin persons, for allegedly smuggling wood of maple tree. It is alleged that the wood was being smuggled from the Silla Gharat area to Saharanpur.

Acting on a tip-off, the team, led by Forest Range Officer Manoj Thakur, put up a barricade near Silla Gharat on Monday night. Forest Section Officer Suresh Kumar, forest guards Chain Singh, and Rohit Kumar, and forest worker Baldev were part of the team that was checking the vehicles at the barricade. On suspicion, the team members stopped a vehicle coming from Silla Gharat.

After checking the vehicle, 160 knots of maple tree wood were recovered from it. The occupants of the vehicle were detained after they couldn’t produce any valid document for carrying the wood.
