Shimla, March 8
Speaker Rajeev Bindal today convened a meeting of the MLAs of the ruling and the Opposition to facilitate the smooth conduct of the budget session of the Assembly.
The Congress staged a walkout on the first two days of the session while demanding a debate on issues like the proposed amendment to Section 118 of the Tenancy and Land Reform Act and on large scale transfers of employees after the formation of the BJP government.
The Speaker invited Education and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Bhardwaj and Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri so that the issues could be taken up and valuable time saved. The ruling party was keen that the House should run smoothly as Union Health Minister JP Nadda was in the Assembly to file his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election.
Bindal sought the cooperation of both ruling and Opposition which, he said, was a must to ensure that the business listed for the day was taken up and constructive debates could be taken up. — TNS
