With Solan and Shimla in the grip of jaundice, half-a-dozen panchayats of satellite areas of Palampur fear the outbreak in the absence of no provision for the disposal of garbage in and around Palampur.

Even though panchayat representatives are willing to start a door-to-door campaign in their respective panchayats as suggested by the administration, they want a proper disposal mechanism for the waste before the drive is started.

An official of the Palampur Municipal Council said it had a small manual garbage treatment plant with limited capacity for the population of only 10,000. Since the population is of the dozen panchayats in Palampur has grown to 60,000, it had become imperative to consider a comprehensive garbage collection and disposal plan, he said.

The panchayat representatives urged the Kangra Deputy Commissioner to take measures in this regard at the earliest to check the outbreak of jaundice.
