Shimla, January 25
Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi today and sought funds for the restoration of roads damaged during the monsoon last year.
Gadkari assured Vikramaditya of releasing Rs 152 crore for the repair and upgrade of national and state highways. He discussed various issues related to damage caused and losses suffered due to incessant rain and landslides in Himachal.
Vikramaditya said that the Union Minister had visited Kullu and Manali post rain disaster to assess the damage caused to roads and bridges. “During his visit, Gadkari had announced that funds would be sanctioned for the restoration of link roads branching from national highways up to a distance of one km,” he added.
He said that the state had requested the Central Government for Rs 152 crore from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and submitted additional estimates of Rs 23.08 crore for the restoration and construction of four major state roads and highways.
Vikramaditya said that the Central Government had approved the DPR of Rs 108.33 crore for the upgrade of the Tikkar-Jarol-Gahan-Khamadi road. This road connects Kotgarh, Kumarsain, Nankhari and Rampur tehsil.
Gadkari assured Vikramaditya that Rs 152 crore would be released soon for the repair and upgrade of national highways connecting roads at the earliest.
