Rohtak, July 18

Villagers attacked power nigam officials at the nigam office in Sampla township of the district today. Residents of Gandhra and Atayal villages had come to the local office of the nigam to lodge their complaint against non-supply of electricity.

The villagers reportedly resorted to violence and created a ruckus as their grievance was not redressed. An SDO and some other officials of the nigam were hurt in the assault . The police was then called and the injured were hospitalised.

Superintending Engineer SK Bansal said the residents had come to lodge their complaint about erratic power supply to their villages due to some technical fault and the matter was being addressed. However, they assaulted nigam officials after which a complaint was filed. The police have booked five persons by name and 100-150 others on the basis of a complaint lodged by nigam officials.

Meanwhile, villagers also attacked a team of power officials at Kheri Meham village and damaged their vehicle. As they reached the house of Subhash to examine his electricity meter, several villagers attacked them and damaged their vehicle by pelting it with stones. The police booked certain residents by name, among several others. — TNS
