Jind, February 13

Congress media in-charge Randeep Surjewala today warned the BJP government to either mend its “anti-poor” policies or get ready to face consequences.

He was here to preside over a protest rally in the old grain market.

The rally was organised by the Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress. The protesters challenged the BJP government to an open debate about its pre-poll promises and decisions taken after assuming power.

“The BJP made several promises before the Assembly elections. After coming to power, the party has taken decisions against the poor. It has raised power rates and failed to release compensation for crop loss in spite of getting girdawari reports from officers concerned,” alleged Surjewala.

“The poor are getting monthly power bills between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000, while the middle class are getting bills in the range of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. In this scenario, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has been threatening the people to pay bills to get regular supply. Instead, he should take action to reduce power rates,” the Kaithal MLA said.

After the rally, Surjewala and other Congress leaders also led a march in the city. The march started from the old grain market and concluded at the administrative complex. They submitted a memorandum to ADC Amna Tasmeen.
