The Education Department has decided to take strict action against schools which are functioning without obtaining the mandatory recognition.

As per information, there are 39 schools which have been functioning without recognition in Ambala.

A senior official of the Education Department said, “The unrecognised schools admit students and then enroll them in to recognised schools so that they can appear in board exams. It is mandatory for every school to register details of the students on the MIS (Management Information System) portal of the Education Department. Some unrecognised schools have registered themselves on the MIS portal and in order to retain the students, they do not issue online School Leaving Certificate (SLC), which is must for registration on MIS.”

Sudhir Kalra, Block Education Officer, Ambala City, said, “In case the online SLC in not issued, students can not be registered by the new schools as they have already been enrolled as per the MIS portal. Nearly 10 cases have come to the notice in Ambala City block in which schools have issued manual SLC, instead of online SLCs.”

“Not only unrecognised schools, but some recognised schools have also been doing the same thing. Some parents have also claimed that schools were minting money by showing pending dues while issuing SLC, while all the dues were cleared before exams. Schools have been asked for explanation as they have been violating the Right to Education Act and they have been directed to issue the SLCs,” said the officer.

The District Education Officer also held a meeting with the BEOs of Ambala recently and issued necessary directions to them.

DEO Uma Sharma, said, “The matter related to the SLC has come to notice and all the BEOs have been directed to resolve such cases on priority basis. A list has been provided to the BEOs regarding recognised and unrecognised schools. The unrecognsied schools will be sent notices asking them to stop functioning. The department is advising parents to get their wards admitted only in recognised schools.”
