The Thanesar Municipal Council stood exposed again, as moderate pre-monsoon showers today caused waterlogging in various parts of the holy city.

Though the rain brought much-needed respite from the scorching and humid weather in the region, it also caused misery for motorists, who had to drive on damaged roads and waterlogged streets.

Municipality and the district authorities have been claiming to have started pre-monsoon preparations on a war footing.

Railway Road, Vishnu Colony and Jhansa Road remained among the worst-hit localities in the city.

The Tribune team visited various localities and found inlets of stormwater drain blocked at many places, disrupting smooth flow of rainwater. ud piled up along roads turned slippery, causing a lot of inconvenience to two-wheeler riders.

The condition of drains, which were apparently cleaned, was also not very good, since silt had not been picked up at some places. Complaints of water entering various residential and commercial establishments in different parts of the city were also reported.

The downpour further affected power supply in the district. The electricity and water supply remained suspended for more than 12 hours in various sectors and parts of the old city.

Local MLA Subhash Sudha visited various affected areas and asked the local authorities to initiate coordinated efforts to ease the situation.

Mukesh Chauhan, XEN, UHBVN, said intermittent rain affected repair of affected power supply lines.
