Two more cases of rape have been reported on a day President Ram Nath Kovind approved an ordinance to provide death penalty for those convicted of raping girls 12 years or below.

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted in the dharamshala of a temple at Mohri village under Jathlana police station in Yamunanagar district on April 20.

In a complaint to the police, the mother of the victim stated that she and her husband were working as labourers at the Ladwa grain market in Kurukshetra district.

She said that they had gone to the grain market on April 19 and when they returned on April 20 evening, their eldest daughter started crying on seeing them.

The mother said that the victim along with her four brothers and sisters was sleeping in the house. Around 2am on April 20, two residents of the village, identified as Mellu (30) and Kala (24), and two unidentified persons entered the house. They tied a cloth around the mouth of the victim and took her to the dharamshala.

She alleged that Mellu and Kala raped her daughter, while the other two stood guard. She said that the accused also thrashed her and threatened her of dire consequences if she narrated the incident to anyone.

After committing crime, the accused left the dharamshala. According to information, the dharamshala is hardly 50 m from the house of the victim and it was empty when the crime took place.

Mellu works as a labourer, while Kala is a driver and both are married.

Sheelawanti, SHO, Women police station, said that a case had been registered under the POCSO Act and various Sections of the IPC against the accused and they would be arrested soon.
