Kurukshetra University today constituted a three-member panel to look into an alleged case of submission of fake Scheduled Caste certificate by an assistant professor.

At the executive council (EC) meeting, the KU authorities tabled a detailed report submitted by the Karnal Deputy Commissioner, stating the SC certificate had no official record.

The accused faculty member belongs to the Muslim Julaha community and had reportedly applied for the post of an assistant professor under the reserved category.

Sources said a legal opinion sought by the KU had ruled out reservation benefits to Muslim Julahas as the community does not fall under the SC category in Haryana.

University sources said the accused, who is working with KU for nearly a decade, had been claiming of securing the SC certificate genuinely from the Karnal administration.

He had mentioned serial no.2348 registered on September 12, 2000, in which he had been mentioned as a resident of the Gharaunda block in Karnal. However, an inquiry report of the Karnal tehilsdar presented before the EC said the serial number was issued in the name of a Karnal resident.

Details of serial no.2343-2352, which were issued on September 14, 2000, have been given to KU.

Name of the university teacher is not mentioned in it.

Sources said though no deadline was fixed, the panel had asked to review various aspects. Meanwhile, the EC today ratified the selection criteria of assistant professor in line with the UGC recommendations. According to the criteria, weightage of 30 and 20 marks will be given respectably for the academic and research performance of a candidate.
