Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has summoned a meeting of party leaders on April 25 to mobilise support for Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s Jan Akrosh rally in Delhi on April 29.

Hooda is at present recuperating in the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he was admitted on April 18.

According to sources close to him, Hooda is likely to be discharged from the hospital before April 25. His son and Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda has been coordinating with Congress workers for the success of Rahul Gandhi’s rally.

The sources said that all present and former MPs and MLAs, those who contested the 2014 parliamentary and Assembly elections on the Congress ticket, former presidents of district Congress, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, NSUI, Congress Sewa Dal and leaders working for INTUC and other frontal organisations of the party had been invited to the April 25 meeting.

The meeting at Hooda’s Delhi residence, according to sources, had been called to assign duties to various leaders for mobilising people for the rally. Hooda being the tallest among the Congress leaders in the state, the party pins hope on him for the success of the rally.

The sources claimed that even for two previous Congress rallies in Delhi during the present BJP regime, Hooda was responsible for bringing a big chunk of crowd.

Deepender, while talking to The Tribune on Saturday, alleged that people were unhappy with the policies of the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state. “Through the April 29 rally, Rahul Gandhi will convey the voice of millions of people to the Central government. With the rally a countdown of the BJP government will begin,” said Deepender.
