952 cases disposed of in lok adalat

KARNAL: As many as 952 cases were disposed of in the National Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at the district courts here on Sunday.

As many as 952 cases were disposed of in the National Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at the district courts here on Sunday.

District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, Lalit Batra chaired the lok adalat. Thirteen benches, including Assandh and Indri subdivision courts, were constituted to dispose of pending cases, said Surya Chander Kant, secretary, DLSA.

He said two benches of MACT were constituted to deal with motor accident claim cases. Five cases were settled on the spot and a sum of Rs 17,40,000 was awarded as compensation, he added.

At the same time 170 cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act were settled and Rs 6,02,47,075 was the settlement amount. Approximately 587 cases of traffic violation were also disposed of and a sum of Rs 2,29,050 was realised as fine. Besides, 144 criminal compoundable cases and 45 other civil cases were disposed of. The Permanent Lok Adalat settled 35 cases at pri-litigative stage and passed award of Rs 79,18,053, he said.

694 cases settled in Sonepat

Sonepat: As many as 694 cases of different nature involving financial involvement of around Rs 54 lakh were settled in the Rashtriya Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority at Sonepat and subdivisional headquarters at Gohana, Gannaur and Kharkhoda on Sunday.

According to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Hitesh Garg, under the supervision of District and Sessions Judge Surya Pratap Singh, 54 cases related with banks and recovery of Rs 30.42 lakh bank loan was settled.

The adalat settled 281 cases of Biljli Vitran Nigam and 26 cases registered under the Excise Act. A penalty of Rs 3.70 lakh was realised in six cases of cheque bounce.

Three cases of motor accidents, compromising compensation of Rs 18.20 lakh were settled. Similarly, 20 cases of motor vehicle challans were settled and a penalty of around Rs 1.27 lakh was realised.
