Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam today inaugurated Nav Kiran-I and II, halfway homes for women who are treated with mental illness, at Sector-3, Rohini, during a function organised by the Department of Social Welfare.
The minister said the need for such halfway homes is felt, as the community at large is still hesitant in accepting such persons into its fold.
The homes would provide facilities to such treated and controlled mentally ill persons as well as counselling to them and their families to facilitate reintegration with family and society. They would also provide medical advice and treatment relating to their illness so that periodic or occasional psychiatric disturbances can be managed.
The halfway home is meant to provide a facilitating mechanism for rehabilitation of persons whose mental illness is treated and controlled after their discharge from mental hospitals.
