New Delhi, February 22

Ahead of the three major political parties contesting the municipal polls in the national Capital, Swaraj India today announced its first list of 25 candidates, comprising 11 women (two from unreserved seats) and five SC candidates, for the upcoming municipal elections.

Many among those fielded by the new political outfit are activists from the Janlokpal movement while seven are young candidates below 35 years of age, something the party asserts indicates its keenness to have youth in politics.

This is unlike other traditional political parties in which the average age of candidates declared in initial list stands at only 38 years, said Swaraj India national spokesperson Anupam.

In today’s list, Swaraj India, which is going to contest all 272 seats for MCD polls, has declared candidates for 10 of the 104 seats in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, 12 seats under the South Delhi Corporation which has a total of 104 seats and three out of the 64 seats from the East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The newly formed political party has framed a three-tier scrutiny mechanism and process for selecting candidates, said party leaders, including national general secretary Prof Ajit Jha addressing a press conference.
