NEW DELHI:Thousands of wedding ceremonies, on top of the usual weekend rush, may leave traffic on Delhi's roads in knots tomorrow.

New Delhi, April 28

Thousands of wedding ceremonies, on top of the usual weekend rush, may leave traffic on Delhi's roads in knots tomorrow.

With an estimated 14,000 weddings lined up, the traffic police will deploy extra personnel at Chhattarpur, Mehrauli, and Delhi-Gurgaon road where several banquet halls and farmhouses are located.

"We will be seeking the help of the local police in traffic management. They will be assisting the traffic police in issuing challans and ensuring that vehicles are parked properly," Garima Bhatnagar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said.

Traffic police officials said they have held meetings with banquet hall and farmhouse owners, asking them to deploy their staff to ensure that vehicles were not blocking traffic.

Anil Thadani of the popular JEA band said they were swamped with bookings tomorrow.

"People had started making bookings almost 10 months in advance for this day," he said.

"Even though today is Akshaya Tritiya, which is considered an auspicious day, we have more bookings for tomorrow than today," he added.—PTI
