In response to the hiked petrol and diesel prices, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today lashed out at the BJP-led Centre saying “achhe din” in Modi government now reaching their peak as petrol prices crosses Rs 80.

AAP chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj said the constant price rise is adversely affecting the livelihood of the common people, who are feeling back stabbed by the Modi government.

The Modi government held back the petrol price hike due to Karnataka elections for 19 days but after May 14, the prices of petrol are consistently rising and the hike has broken all the records, the party claimed.

The prices of petrol today stand at Rs 84.07 per litre in Mumbai, Rs 79.13 per litre in Chennai, Rs78.91 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 76.24 per litre in Delhi, respectively,— highest levels under the BJP’s Central government while the diesel rates touched a high of Rs 65.65 per litre.

Last time the highest increase in petrol prices was in 2013 when it was Rs 76.06 per litre.

Bharadwaj blamed the Modi government for the inflation in the country stating that from fruits and vegetables to petrol and diesel everything is severely affected from the daily price hikes.

When the Modi government came to power the price of crude oil in the international market was estimated to have fallen from $120 per barrel to $ 30 per barrel, but the Modi government did not give the public any relief by cutting the prices, instead he was always responsible for the price rise, noted the AAP.

The party claimed since May 2014 when the Modi government came to power, there has been about more than 200 per cent rise on the excise duty imposed on the petroleum and about more than 450 per cent rise on the excise duty imposed on diesel.

Despite the fall in the price of crude oil in the international market the BJP government did not bring down prices in domestic market and pass on the benefits to common people, said the AAP.
