CHANDIGARH: The Vice-Chancellor has told the Syndicate in the meeting today that he would meet the new Vice President and Chancellor over granting Central status to the university.

The Vice-Chancellor has told the Syndicate in the meeting today that he would meet the new Vice President and Chancellor over granting Central status to the university. The matter has been deferred till the next meeting of the body and no progress was made today.

The Syndicate members, however, are in opposition of demanding such a status for the varsity. The Syndics say that the historical institution has a distinctive identity because of the bodies like Senate and the Syndicate. If it were to become a Central university, these democratically bodies would cease to exist. Some Syndics also said that it was important that the condition of existing Central universities be studied as it was not much better.


DAV College granted MBA affiliation

The Syndicate has granted affiliation to DAV College’s management institute and asked it to hire new faculty members. DAV College had transferred the existing faculty to which the affiliation committee had objected. However, the survey committee had cleared the other objections and the committee had then granted it affiliation. The college on Sunday issued admission notice for 60 MBA seats as well.

Fact-finding panel for Mukerian college case

The Syndicate decided that a fact-finding committee be made in the case of ouster of Mukerian college principal Kawaljit Kaur. The VC will constitute the committee which will go to the college and inquire into the issue. The principal had claimed she was unjustly ousted by the management after which the VC had summoned them. They gave five reasons for the same and the matter had been taken up in the Syndicate.
