Chandigarh, January 20

A local court today sentenced two brothers to life imprisonment for the murder of a Sector 52 resident.

The court held Rohit (18) and Arjun (20) guilty of killing Krishan in 2016. A fine of Rs 6,000 each has been imposed on the convicts. Their father Titu Ram (45) and mother Rekha (40) were, however, acquitted in the case.

The case dates back to July 1, 2016, when the four were booked under Sections 323, 307 and 302, read with Section 34, of the IPC. On a night before, a quarrel had taken place at a house in Sector 52 here.

In his complaint, Rahul, an auto-rickshaw driver, claimed that he resided with his two brothers — Krishan and Ricky, alias Chhoti. When he was returning to his house on the night of June 30, he noticed his younger brother Ricky standing near a park and being abused by Rohit and his father Titu Ram. Rahul intervened and in the meantime, Krishan also reached the spot. Rohit attacked Krishan with a knife, making him fall down. Rohit’s brother Arjun, who was also present there, stabbed Ricky in the waist. Ricky also sustained serious injuries.

The accused threatened the complainant, who was caught from behind by Titu Ram and Rekha, the parents of the accused. Rahul was also attacked with a knife but he managed to block it with his hand. The accused later fled the spot and Rahul rushed his brothers Krishan and Ricky to the GMSH-16 in a PCR vehicle. Krishan was declared brought dead by doctors while Ricky had received serious injuries in his kidney.

After listening to the arguments, the court observed that the role of Titu Ram and Rekha was not such that they caused any injury and that their participation in commission of the offence could not be proved. Hence, they were acquitted of the charges framed against them.
