Mohali, March 6

A Mohali court issued orders to the Chief Director, Punjab Vigilance Bureau, to register an FIR against then Sohana station House Officer Sumit Mor, Head Constable Malkiat Singh, and Head Constable Gulab Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act, theft, and criminal conspiracy, among others, in a case related to a land dispute dating back to September 25, 2023.

The complainant, Gurmit Singh (57), a resident of Bathinda, stated he entered into an agreement with Hardeep Singh on July 19, 2023, regarding 14 acres of land at Kambala village. Hardeep purchased the stamp papers. Earnest money to the tune of Rs 1.25 lakhs was paid to Hardeep through a cheque. The complainant and witnesses to the agreement, and the counsel of the complainant informed him that he had been cheated by Hardeep because he was just a Benamidar of the land mafia.

It is stated that on July 26, 2023, the payment of Rs 5 crore was to be made to Hardeep Singh. Information regarding the fraud was given to the SHO at the Sohana police station.

The SHO deputed Malkiat Singh to lay the trap on July 26, 2023. When the complainant and his counsel went to the police station with the written complaint against the suspect, the police did not register an FIR, instead telling the complainant to return another day.
