Chandigarh, April 20

Gyandeep Model School, Sector 20 is yet to submit documents required for recognition under the Punjab Education Code (PEC).

Earlier on March 27, a team of Education Department officials carried out an inspection for granting recognition to Class XI, which was earlier cancelled by the department on the account of admitting Class X failed students in Class XI with fake pass and school-leaving certificates.

The school had lost recognition for Classes XI and XII in March 2017 when around 20 Class XII students, who were appearing for board examination, did not get their roll numbers.

During the recent inspection, it was found that the school did not possess any documents required for recognition. It did not have any supporting staff, including clerks and watchman, and could not even produce provident fund deductions, pay slips and fee booklets.

“It’s a matter of surprise that the school was granted recognition in 2018 without any documents,” said an official at the Education Department requesting anonymity.

After inspection, the Education Department decided to give one more chance to the school and offered it to submit the required documents to the department. However, the school has not been able to furnish the documents so far.

A high-level committee of the Education Department is also mulling to revisit the school for the purpose of recognition. There were speculations that the school might not be granted Class XI recognition this year too, as per sources in the department.

  Had promoted failed students

  • The school came in the limelight in March 2017 when around 20 Class XII students, who were appearing for board examination, did not get their roll numbers. The Education Department then marked an inquiry to probe the matter after which it was found that the school had admitted Class X failed students in Class XI with fake pass and school-leaving certificates.
  • The department had then derecognised Classes XI and XII after it found that the school had deceitfully admitted students and minted money from them. The department had also requested the CBSE to withdraw the school’s affiliation.
