A transgender student of Punjab University (PU) here has been invited to a dinner with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday in New Delhi.

Dhananjay Chauhan, a transgender student of Department of Human Rights and Duties, PU, has been invited by High Commissioner for Canada to India Nadir Patel to a dinner-reception celebrating Canada-India ties on the occasion of the visit of Justin Trudeau, on February 22 at the residence of the high commissioner of Canada, a PU release said.

Dhananjay, also a founder of Saksham Trust, an NGO, has been working to alleviate the plight of transgenders.

Earlier, Dhananjay was invited to Netherlands in 2016 to participate in an international meet on rights of transgender people.

Further, Dhananjay's frontal role in organising a 'Pride Walk' in the university campus in 2017 resulted in inviting a number of prominent personalities to the university including Consul General Canada Christopher Gibbins, the release added. — PTI
